Easter about 1953...new clothes, church, visiting, painted eggs, hot cross buns...that was what it was all about in those days.

Here I am with my mother in my new grown up suit..it had 2 skirts, straight & pleated, the
grown up bit didn't apply to my ankle socks & sandals obviously.

Taken in the front garden of 235 Ormskirk Rd, Holland Moor.

We used to go round the neighbours showing off our new clothes and they would give us a threepenny bit.

My brother was born just before Easter 52 years ago today and my Dad and I had to tramp in the sleet and snow to register him somewhere near Billinge hosp if my memory serves. I had been left my Easter clothes by Mum and can still remember the pain of sleety rain on ankle-socked legs but it was unthinkable not to wear them!

I think that births were registered then at 66 St. James Road, Orrell. I remember being told to get off the bus at the 'Running Horses'.
I've just looked on Google Street View but I don't recognise the house. Mind you,the last time I went there was 45 years ago....

Keep up Helen!
I must admit that I went off at a tangent as usual!
