This is one for dk, who likes an interesting pic. I love this one, such a casual snap but I think it really captures the time.
Taken in about 1939/40. My brother Ian Bradshaw & 2 friends being seen off at the station bound for school in the lower Himalyas. My brother in the solar topi & a boy's must have of the time, a snakes head belt. The luggage in front are bedrolls, needed for the overnight journey. My Dad, Bill Bradshaw stands behind wearing the dark glasses & topi, pipe in hand as always.
If you are wondering who went with them on such a long journey...the answer is just one person, the bearer ( house servant). My Dad always said that he could trust our bearer with his & our lives without a doubt. My sister & I would do a similar journey, aged 10 & 6 yrs old.... and we lived to tell the tale.

Nice nostalgic pic, Helen. What a wonderful experience it must have been for your family.

Well Helen how good is this! And I nearly missed it in the flood of pics lately. All your pics seem to carry a subliminal story, especially the abroad ones. There's so much going on here. I don't know about a 'casual' snap or even an eye for a photo but whoever has taken these has certainly a feel for the moment - the passing moment, preserved.
