This certificate was presented to my grandmother Elizabeth Ellen Prescott when she was 13 for being "Never absent never late" for a whole year. If you managed it for 7 years you got a silver medal! The family had moved from Hindley to live in Taylors Lane
Although Thomas Taylor was the first Incumbent of St Mary's (I'm the 9th), he did not become so until the Parish was created in 1888, following the consecration of the church in December 1887. At the time he signd this certificate he was the senior Curate of Christ Church, having been in charge of the area which became St Mary's Parish since 1880. He served under his father-in-law, Canon Fergie, who was the Incumbent of Christ Church.
