A carte de visite is a small black and white photo stuck to a card.Idea was "invented" by Andre Disderi in Nov 1954,(an inexpensive method of producing multiple images with one negative)became a world wide craze and faded away in the 1890s.It became a lucrative business for photographers who always advertised on the reverse of the card, as seen on this example by H Wragg.
