Wigan Album

So young to die. He looked like a proud man. I wonder what he and his daughter died of. My grandfather Fred Lewis of Wigan b.1888(related? dont know) died of cancer at age 50 in Australia leaving his widow to care for several still very young children. Several of his children died middle aged of cancer, and at least 2 of his grandchildren have been afflicted. Must be genetic surely in grandad's family. What I find even sadder is that even for the early 1900's, seems to be an extremely high infant and baby mortality rate in Wigan. Around 80% of deaths? Maybe average for the era. Sheryl B.
