Winners of the Challenge Cup Final played at Wembley in front of Royalty for the first time and watched by over 90,000 spectators. Wigan beat Bradford Northern by 8 points to 3, on May 1st 1948. Jack Hilton and Frank Barton were the try scorers. I'm only able to provide some of the names in the photo. Standing on the left, Jack Bowen and sitting alongside him his wife, Phyllis (my late parents), if we take the gentleman in glasses to be the next along to my mother then this is Tom Brown, Wigan Director and Landlord of the Park Hotel, followed by Ernie Ashcroft, Cec Mountford and Jack Cunliffe. Sitting directly behind the Cup is Joe Egan (Captain on the day) and to the left of the Cup is coach, Jim Sullivan and his son can be seen sitting on the floor at the feet of Jack Hilton who is standing on the right of the photo. Not all the team were present.
