Evans County Primary School (British School) on the left. When I was a pupil (1950- 57) it wasn't steps up to the school, but a slope which started a bit further down Wigan Road. I seem to remember my mother telling me that in the early days one block was the girls and the other the boys. Anyone remember collecting jam jars and then being stored in the space under the classrooms?
Hi Norman the steps you are referring to led up to the two houses above the shops, not the school.I remember one of the families who lived there was named Witherington
Notice Crompton's factory chimney in the background ?
i went to the british school, from , 1956 to 1960. mr fallon was my last teacher. and mr pilling was our headmaster. he was cruel to some of the boys, allways caneing them.
I went to the school from 1958 to 1961. I remember the slope really well . There was a rope climbing frame in the playground and the school always smelled of carrots !
