dk,you are allowing me to re-live some of my happiest childhood memories with the old photos, went up Wutchie many a time with my dad, between 1957 and 1967.Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
A picture of the old rook that brings back many memories
I remember the ruts were the rain used to run down but my fondest memories were of the battles that took place between the Aspullers and the Top Lockers.
It even inspired me to write a poem which can be found on the local poetry section of Wigan World.
It's called "The Battle O' Th' Wutchy Rook
Why is it known as The Wutchie?
could someone tell me how the wutchie slag heaps actually were formed ie what machinery or plant got it there ?
Wutchie is "woodshaw" in local talk
Steve, the dirt was dumped on the tip by means of an aerial ropeway.
I live in the street infront of the wutchie its a lovely view
