A very old picture of Wutchie and it has been a struggle to get this much clarity. I know it's not a belter but I think it's interesting for its age and for the "slag heap" appearance of the wutchie with rain valleys cutting into its sides. Almost unrecognizeable compared to today and it's only a memory of both that helps make any sense of it. circa 1948 possibly earlier.

A picture of the old rook that brings back many memories
I remember the ruts were the rain used to run down but my fondest memories were of the battles that took place between the Aspullers and the Top Lockers.
It even inspired me to write a poem which can be found on the local poetry section of Wigan World.
It's called "The Battle O' Th' Wutchy Rook

Steve, the dirt was dumped on the tip by means of an aerial ropeway.
