I know this pond as one almost overgrown in the corner of the backside field of Hindley Golf with, I think, John England Tubes or Markland Tubes factories in right mid distance and to the immediate right on the banks of the pond was a night watchman's hut. The chap in here used to give us tea if there weren't too many of us at once.
There was a cutting between the factories which we followed to the slagheap at the top end of the Deep Pit.
We never fished in this pond although I have a dip in it for bloodworm.
that was the pond that when you went past barons farm and turned left toward john england tubes
it went up a small road.
you could actually drive up it until you got to farm yard at the top and then the road became very uneven.
if you walked up it you would eventually hit the golf course and then on straight through to Borsdane wood
Thanks Peter.
I have found a reference to a tarmac works in Kirkless Alan Godfrey map situated on plot 409 which is drawn directly behind this viewpoint. So it makes a bit more sense now though I know that area only as slag heaps.
We would pass this pond on the way to fish on Hindley reservoir. There was a grass path between the gold course on the right and a farmer's field on the left which brings you out at the side of the farm at the side of Hindley Hall. We would pinch a few red worms from his muckheap on the way.
