ANOTHER LOST PUB...

My father Jack Green was landlord of the Amberswood Tavern 1974 / 80. He was woken one night by the room going cold. As he opened his eyes ,a ghostly person was standing at the end of his bed , then this figure started to come close to him , needless to say he ducked under the covers , when he looked again it had gone.

Oh what an eerie experience for your Dad, Wendy! I remember The Amberswood from when I grew up in Ince. Can Row was down by the side of it.

Used to be a favourite lunchtime spot for some of the people who worked at Gullicks.

I remember this pub,it was quite near to where i lived growing up.Passed it many times on the way to Ince Park and as Irene says,Can Row at the side. One of the Metcalfe lads used to sing here at weekends in the late 90's/ early 2000's.

I always wondered if this building was an ordinary house at one time. It just never looked like a pub to me. (Perhaps that ghost used to live there…)

Perhaps he had drunk too much beer.

Top landlord Jack Green. Always wore a collar and tie and did great pub food at lunchtimes.
Such a shame when it was bought by Westwood Motors and to be fair they have refurbished the building to a good standard, but can't get away from the fact that a community asset was lost to big business.
I would think that around seventy per cent of residential properties and seven public houses on Manchester Rd in that area have been lost to industry , and certainly contributed to people now considering it as an eyesore. The exception being the Royal Hotel converted to flats.
