Looking back to that era and the clothes the young lads are wearing almost look like a uniform. They had to reach a certain age didn't they before they could wear long trousers if memory serves me well? I would love any children to
recognise themselves on these photos.
Veronica
At WGS you had to wear short trousers in the first year so you were at least 12 before you wore long trousers. It was a big thing don't remember any boy at any primary school wearing long trousers.
Yes I remember my brother wearing short pants until he was about 13 Carolean. Lads never went anywhere without their caps either even when playing out. I-think they look distinguished. Some rolled the socks down and some kept them up!
Those boots must have been in fashion too. ;o)
Ps I think at one time in the distant past it was called being “breeched”
When they went into long trousers.
Instantly recognisable location. Just past where Springfield Rd. joins Woodhouse Lane going towards Martland Mill. You don't see rag and bone men any more, giving a donkey stone in exchange for rags.
Given the direction that vehicle excise duty , insurance and fuel prices are currently heading , I reckon we’ll all be riding around in horse drawn carts before too long .
Derek instead of horse and carts we have plastic bags pushed through the letter boxes saying what they require and what NOT to put inside them.. ! More, Charities than what you can keep up with. Still it’s better than trekking up to the Charity Shops.
