Those young lads look very spruced up....I wonder if it was Walking Day or some other procession? It seems that everyone was waiting for something, and what a novelty for them to be on a photo! To be honest, Walthew Lane hasn't changed all that much over the years.

I was born in Walthew Lane more years ago than I care to remember. Irene the shop on the corner in later years was that Massey’s? Next door was Ellison’s chippy. The naughtiest thing us children did was to ask Mrs Ellison if she had ant chips left and when she said yes our response was always “serves you right for cooking so many” I was born in 108 Walthew Lane the house next door to the first bay window.

I was born in 108 Walthew Lane more years ago than I care to remember. The house was the one next to the first bay window where Mrs Byron lived.

Sorry I sent it twice, an age thing!

Linma, I only moved to Platt Bridge in 1971 with my parents and brother, when they demolished our house in Ince, so I'm afraid I don't know about those shops. That corner shop is still a shop....it is an off-licence now. As I live in Abram I have never been in there but pass it on the bus or when I go to the dentists which is further up Walthew Lane. I remember children in Ince doing the "have you any chips left?" trick, and running into the Co-op shouting, " 'Ave yer any Wild Woodbines, Missus?.....Well, tame 'em!", and also running into Cain's Cake-shop in Belle Green Lane shouting, "'Ave yer any iced buns, Missus?....Well, slorr on um!".

It looks a bit different these days Ron,
