you’ll have sin it befoor no doubt .
The corner of Hardybutts and John St.
My street. It would be lovely to see it all though. Keep looking Ozy. But I remember it well as if it was yesterday. This is just opposite the Prince of Wales. I certainly remember who lived in that house and you can see Hardybutts but that’s covered over now.
Ps Ozy you do realise these pics will be pirated by the Jolly Swagman. Although I suppose it’s legal with credit already given to (‘pick ‘n ‘mix’.) Thank goodness for them! .
These timepix photos are down loaded off the Internet. They are very interesting.
Whereabouts is John Street in Scholes?
Is it still in existence or have the houses been demolished?
Several years ago , I was promised access to a substantial collection of original photos taken of all the streets in pre - demolition Scholes .
I think I may have mentioned it at the time Veronica .
However , several requests over the years to view them have been met with the response ,
“ I ain’t had time to sort through ‘em yet “. So after years of asking I’ve finally given up .
So there you have it Veebs . Old ,unseen photos of the entire area of Scholes stuck in someone’s drawer never to be enjoyed by people such as yourself , who actually lived in the place .
Talk about a dog in a soddin’ manger .
As regards Timepix , there’s quite a number of shots taken around Scholes , but the photo above is the only one that I can find featuring John st….Pity it hadn’t been taken from a different perspective though eh?
The houses have been long gone Rich. Vauxhall Rd is still there and at the end of Vauxhall Rd turning the corner was John St more or less opposite to Belvoir St which is still there.
Never mind Ozy whoever it is might change their mind and put them on one of these days. It would be brilliant if it happened.
Thanks Veronica.
Would that be the top of St Patricks church that you can see in the background?
It’s hard to make out but at that time there was the old boy’s school which was the church before the building which is there now built and opened in 1847. When I was at school in the fifties the boy’s old school was still there. It was a stone building on the left side of this photo.
