I remember going there with Hindley and Abram Grammar School in the 1960s for some kind of music festival. I know it wasn't the annual Founders' Day Service as that was at All Saints, Hindley, and the annual Carol Service was at St. Peter's Hindley, but I'm blowed if I can remember why we went to The Queens Hall.....come on, Elizabeth, help me out! Anyway, it was a very impressive building.

Sorry I'm not Elizabeth !! Although we are a few years apart at H.A.G.S. I'm pretty certain that it would be Speech Day ?

My friend Elizabeth and myself sometimes go there for our coffee..it has a nice atmosphere and the people who are involved in the serving of coffee are lovely people.

You're right, Ivor! "Speech Day" just wouldn't come to me and I needed a reminder....Elizabeth often comes to the rescue when my brain-cells seize up regarding HAGS. Thankyou!

Goodness me Gordon this year would be your 68th Anniversary!!!!
I think we has Elizabeth Wilding do out wedding pictures in 1974, a mere 50th this year!
We do forget how many shops there where and how busy Market Street was in those days.
I think the Queens Hall looks a bit cleaner these days though.

I remember going to Elizabeth Wildings next to the Queens Hall for my first passport photo in ‘66. Nowadays you can just go in one of the photo machines in the Post Office.

Veronica, as you know I don't go abroad, but when Peter and I were first married we went to France and Belgium with friends who had an interest in the Battle of the Somme and we visited the commonwealth graves.....back then get a one-year passport from The Post Office!

Yes I remember those days Irene. I think the one I got then was for a 12 month one.

There were music and singing festivals at the Queens Hall in the fifties when local primary schools sent their choirs for competitions-- I remember going to several in the late fifties

Kathy T., the music events continued and I definitely know that there were music events in the eighties, but I am not sure about the nineties. I was involved in a music performance at the Queen's Hall and it was an enjoyable occasion.
Additionally, this building (Queen's Hall), in its full entirety, was absolutely incredible and a complete joy to view.
