What a happy photo.

Reminds me of a Frances Frith photo.
As Pw comments, the little girls look very happy to be having their photo taken. Nice to see these images of Upholland, thanks Ron

A beautiful photo. I would love to go for another walk around Upholland in the Summer months as I did last year. But would this part still be there I wonder. It reminds me of the Milly- Molly - Mandy books. Although there would have been great hardship I should think.

What a lovely photo. I agree, Helen.....I have two Francis Frith photos and there is a similarity. I also agree with Veronica about the photo reminding her of the Milly-Molly-Mandy books.....I still have mine! If you go again in Summer, Veronica, please let us know if you find "Stairey Brow".

Brilliant picture Ron, the bow window reminds me of the one that used to be on display at Wigan Central Library taken from a building in Market Place.
I have been told it is in storage (Along with the Princess of Wales thing out of the Grand Arcade) but not yet tracked them down. Perhaps that storage area is like the one out of Indian Jones!

Stairey Brow is no longer there, Veronica. It was replaced by a big flight of steps about seventy years ago.
Back Brow, where the photographer would have been standing to take this pic is still there though.

I will do Irene but next time it will be on the bus and not the train. I can see why it was called Stairey Brow. Who knows I might bump into Billy Blunt and Little friend Susan. Not forgetting Mrs Moggs and Baby Moggs being wheeled in the pram! ;-)

If theres a rail to hang onto it won’t be so bad Mick LD. Especially if the stone cottages are still there.
My very distant ancestors lived in that area before coming to Scholes in the early .1800’s. As far back as the 1700’s. A Peter Catterall followed by quite a few more.
