Fantastic photo! Again, I would love to be transported back into that photo and walk into that shop. People took such care to put on a good window display. I'm surprised not to see a weighing machine by the door, which seemed to be standard outside chemists years ago. It used to be a penny to get weighed.

The days when you could go ‘window shopping’ no need to spend any money it was enough just to see the well dressed windows.

I knew that MPS meant they were a Members of the Pharmaceutical Society, but I was wondering what the FSMC meant, it's Freeman of the Spectacle-Makers’ Company.

Irene, thanks for the memory of the weighing machine outside the chemist shops. I used to be fascinated by them when I was a kid but never having a penny to spend on it (well, weighing machine never won out over sweets when it came to spending).

I never knew that the chemist shop was where the Balti is now. I was born in 1960 so for me it was always at Hall Geen

Most chemists had a set of scales in the shop for weighing babies.

Irene there was always a cardboard cut out of a shapely girl in shorts with a blonde pageboy haircut, flashing pearly white teeth - either inside the door or outside depending on the weather. Do you remember?

Ps forgot to say the cardboard cut out was advertising Kodak films.

Jack, I remember the baby scales....there were some in the chemists where I worked in Standish, with a clean white nappy to lie the baby on. Veronica, I can't remember the cut-out of the Kodak Film girl when I worked in the chemists, (we mustn't have had one!). They probably had them in Boots but I didn't work there until 1992. I do recall all the different films....Kodak, Agfa and Ilford, when films had to be sent away to be developed.

Veronica, here's a Kodak swimsuit girl advertising stand on Worthpoint, I do remember the one with a girl in a bikini so I'm sure there's one out there somewhere.

Thanks Cyril I looked at that one but it’s not the one I remember perhaps there were others as well.
