We talk about climate change but from the family photo Album this was taken during the longest cold spell in 50 years according to Father's entry in the diary. These are my 2 sisters enjoying the ride on the Big Sledge that father made for them. He had fitted 2 folding Taxi Seats to the frame. The family had moved to Wrightington Street from Standish Lower Ground due to the war starting and the Girls were at Wigan schools and Father was also working in Wigan. My Mum took the picture whilst on the walk.

Great photos Barry. I bet it was interesting when you all got together in later years and looking at those photos. I have said before you could write a book about life in Wigan for your family from your father’s view. I am sure the magazine Past Forward would love these stories and photos.

Wonderful images Barrie.
Re climate change I don't doubt it is happening but I always wonder if the planet is always changing. For instance think of the times back when the Thames was so solid with ice they used to hold fairs on it & in more modern times when living we lived in Kent I remember the snow fell in December & lasted till March & again in the 70's it was bad for quite a long spell, living 15 miles...as the crow flies.... from central London we were snowed in for weeks without power for most of that time.
