I remember Mitchell St well.
Sunday tea with Auntie Annie & Uncle Fred Foster's at the shop in Billinge Rd & then off to Mitchell St Chapel for the 6pm service. Handsome Cousin Fred Foster didnt accompany us, he was always sprucing himself up for a date with Edna Twigg who became his wife. Happy Days !
The houses were there in 1890 and backed onto the Norley branch of the L&NWR railway line.
So, that makes you Jeff’s Aunty Helen. (of Troy).
After coming down Norley pad (old railway line) and across Ormskirk Road we would have known Mitchell Street as the way to Alexandra Park which was known locally as Robin Park. The bowling green behind the railings was sacrosanct and us noisy lot, as we were called, wouldn't have been allowed in, as th'owd men as we'd call them took their bowls very seriously.
Mick'sCrossbar....splitting hairs I am probably more likely Jeff & David's 2nd cousin. Got to get these things right !
The woman in the photo would appear to be in 1920s clothing.
