Roby Mill

There's plenty of children in the photo, one in a bonnet and the others with flat caps, there's a dog stood on a shed or some other structure behind the hedge, also a parent and two children walking on the pavement, and what looks to be a lorry or bus parked further up from them. A busy day in Roby Mill I suppose, as sometimes you can go down from College Road to Appley Lane and not see a soul.
Those stout, stone gate posts have lost their gates. Did they take gates, railings, etc down in the 1st WW , supposedy for making weapons ?
The view hasn't changed much today.
The houses in the brick terrace are numbers 2 to 6 Roby Mill, and the van is parked outside the old Jubilee Methodist chapel.
The older the photograph the older the buildings appear to be. You would think they should look newer as you went back in time and eventually show a row of new houses.
How nostalgic. I was born at 2 Roby Mill in 1931 and we moved soon afterwards to a new house next door -42 Stoney Brow.Attended the Methodist Chapel until we moved to Hindley in 1952. Now in Cottesloe,Perth WA
