Years ago I was told that the pub name Seven Stars was named after the Pleiades constellation and again it was the Plough constellation, anyhow there's a bloke called Hugh Kolb who's written a book about the name.

Was it this former pub that at one time was painted green rather the orange shown here, or is that somewhere else?
There is a photo on the web of when it was painted green and white.

I drove past the former pub this morning - the lettering for its name have not been boarded over - a not very successful attempt has been made to erase it.
That's sad David, I can imagine they've made a mess of it too if they've been chipping away, I suppose the name and the crest of seven stars would be blocks of carved stone set into the building and part of its unique architecture and history. I'm sure customers going to the Olive Garden restaurant wouldn't have minded at all if they could still see the name nor the fact that it was a former pub, I'd have thought it would have given it character and not look to be just a box like structure.
Directly opposite across the road the house was the original Seven Stars
