The Green Man is listed as being an Albion Brewery public house (in link below) and yet the sign at the front looks to be a lot more than Albion Brewery, though I can't make it out, I can see Ales at the bottom, it may well be an old brewery sign that was uncovered during demolition.

Interestingly as you can see Dr R. Prosser White the GP, Physician and Dermatologist who worked within the Wigan hospitals and also has the Dermatology Unit at Leigh Infirmary named after him was on the board of directors.

Though beer, especially Guinness was still given to certain hospital patients up until twenty or so years ago and being used as a dietary supplement.
