PROPERTY OF CAPT J WALMSLEY ? PURCHASED FROM T ? FORMALLY THE RESIDENCE OF HUGH GASKELL ESQ. WAS BUILT FOR THE INCE FAMILY. IN 1259 WILL GERARD OF BRYN MARRIED? CAN ANYONE DECIPHER THE REMAINING TEXT?
CAPT J WALMSLEY ? PURCHASED FROM T ?
Looks like T. Gerard. This is up my street as you know Ron with my Walmesley research I'd love to have a closer look. It appears the Walmesley's had Ince Hall and Lucknam, another branch Westwood Hall & Inglewood. It's a missing part for me at the moment on finding the link.
I find that...
"The Hall of Ince was sold by Richard Gerard in 1716 to John Walmesley of Wigan. Descendant Mr. John Walmesley of Lucknam and Ince is the present owner" (1911)
"building transferred ......... to the Ince family ...... will of 1259".
"Gerard of Bryn manor ......"
Clearly, this is someone's thoughts, written as they see things.
Was there any Gerards in Bryn in 1259? There is reference to a marriage to Joan, daughter of Peter of Bryn, to a Gerard of Kingsley, Cheshire. This is in the mid 1300's and could be taken as the first introduction of Gerard to the Bryn estate?
Everybody and his dog knows a story about it. Read through the family papers.
Gerard of Bryn married the daughter and sole heiress of the then _____,
( Free) and then it came with the ____ farm.
Property of Cpt. J Walmsley of Ince Hall. Purchased from T Gerard formerly residence of Hugh Gaskell Esq.. Built and purchased originally for Ince family in 1259. Will Gerard of Bryan married the daughter and sole heiress of this then
purchased the (Free) freehold? and then it came to the Gerard family.
Ron is there an approx year for the text? I'm looking through the Walmesley timeline and I think the Capt J. Walmesley could be the John Walmesley of Lucknam and Ince as mentioned back in 1911.
The Hall of Ince was sold by Richard Gerard in 1716 to John Walmesley of Wigan - the above John being a descendant.
I always thought it was Robert Gerard?
Is this for me James?
