This was Wigan Co-op's discount store to rival the competition such as Lennons, Tesco and Whelan's, I don't think it stayed open for very long, I can't remember if it later then became a bathroom, bedroom or kitchen fitters showroom?
Can't guess the year but there is a Ford Prefect and Mini van, (the Prefect had four doors and usually two tone colours, the Anglia and Popular cheaper with two doors).
I remember this store opening, circa 1967. I think it was Ken Dodd who performed the opening cermony.
Whereabouts on Gidlow Lane was this? I'm trying to pinpoint the exact location but I'm struggling.
CJ
I didn't know the Gidlow area in those days and yet the name "Krazy Kuts" is familiar. Perhaps there was another shop with that name somewhere.
Cyril, it still is a kitchen and bedroom fitters, Arley Cabinets i think it's called.
CJ, it is on the left going up the lane probably a couple of hundred yards from the Park Rd junction.
Used to be the picture house on Gidlow Lane, I think the building is still there. My Nan used to shop there in the 60's.
Thanks Roy, yes that's it Arley Cabinets - it's good to know that they're still going.
I worked at the Co-op late sixties to early seventies, and it was possibly 1968 when we took linoleum floor covering along to there when the Co-op's works department were doing the renovations to turn it from a cinema into one of those becoming popular pile it high sell it cheap shops.
I remember this as a Co-op jn the mid seventies. I am sure there was a Krazy Kuts in Leigh in the 70s, behind Bradshawgate and in the vicinity of what was then Leigh bus station
Derek B, I think that shop in Leigh might be the one I'm thinking of,
Almost every town had a Krazy Kuts in the late 60's, early 70's..
