Always the danger of your trunks coming off when diving from the third stage .
Diving off the third stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was brave diving in from the side..<g>.
I can rembemer that diving stage. When we about 16 me and a mate went up and could not believe how high it looked.A much younger lad did a perfect swallow dive,I plucked up enough courage to jump off,my mate went back down the steps. We used to dive from the sides in this area to reach the bottom of the pool.
Are they still allowed to dive in at the new pool?
I swim every week at the Leisure Centre in Westhoughton but diving isn’t allowed even from the side. (There’s no diving boards anyway.)
I heard that Wigan baths was called "international" due to there being many foreigners working on the build. Irish, Polish, Lithuanian and a Yugoslav who's name was John Wayne. Has anybody else heard this or is it just a rumour?
I think it was rumour John, my husband worked on the build of the baths, he was a plumber and heating engineer. There were none of those foreigners mentioned at the time. The word " International" was because it was built for competitions.
just showed my grand daughter that photo lets go there looks great sorry love been pulled down and made into a giant jacuzzi why she asked
I thought they made a mistake with the measurements of the length of the pool due to the tiles and had to downgrade it
PeterP that's the story I heard. When building the actual pool. They didn't take into consideration the thickness of the tiles. I believe that there was an International fixture against the USA and everyone was recording record times That's when they discovered the pool was a couple of inches short of the official length Outcome.. no more internationals..
its about right every thing wigan folk enjoy they seem to pull it down wigan council a sham
The pool was actually 55 yards long and for international competition needed to be 50 meters I spent many hours in here with Wigan wasps in the 70's there were still competitions in there but any times achieved were converted to metric 50 meter equivalent
Is the pool still there?
