A great photo Ron, it looks to be a nice serene rural area then with children having a great time in the hay too.
Also good to see it it as it was, unlike the photo of the demolition in 1937. https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=5&id=32143&gallery=Springfield&page=1
Also a discussion on whereabouts it was. https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/communicate/mb_message.php?opt=f2&msd=152551&offset=&subject=Springfield%2520Hall
To treasure and hold ,
leave rest to unfold,
the hay where we play ,
forever will stay,
like the voice in my heart ,
will sing not depart,
and stay in the safe of our souls ..
Brings back images of idyllic hot summerdays, hay making, picnics, lemonade. Just lovely.
( Of course we are having our own spell of hot summer days but probably not so idyllic! )
See that scumbag Alan Jolley (another Little Hitler who if he doesn't like what you post bans you) who runs the Wigan Nostalgia site. Has pinched this image from this site, within minutes of it being posted, AGAIN without giving acknowledgement to the source The ironic thing is in his terms he says "Let's treat everyone with respect".
I just read a fascinating article prepared by Wigan Building Preservation Trust on the Location, Occupancy and History of Springfield Hall.
One being Ralph Darlington after whom Darlington Street was named.
I objected to one of my ‘personal’’ photos ie .(“myself as a young girl’’) photos being lifted without credit. I have been struck off. To be honest all the photos are swiped off here. Big Jessie! Folk must think he studies hard to find photos and all he does is come on here and whips them off.!
