Oops !
Manys the Sunday I walked along there & down the steps to the church. Looks like it was a misty morning.
Austin Maxi, Wigan registration SEK127M.
1750 Austin Maxi HL. Twin S.U. carbs.
Austin Maxi with O/S front damage.
Austin Maxi takes on Thames Trader outside the White Lion and loses
Austin Mini - it's not outside the White Lion.
It's the bad bend at the bottom of Alma Hill, at its junction with Higher Lane and Back Brow.
The slate roof of the White Lion can be seen on the street below, to the left of the truck, with the gable of UpHolland Conservative Club above it.
This is one of a series of photos taken on Alma Hill by the late Colin Pearce as part of a road safety campaign in the 1970s.
It's Alma Hill not outside the White Lion.
Terry, no the OLD DOG was on Alma Hill. The WHITE LION is directly opposite the steps to the church entrance
That's what I was saying Ron. I said it was on Alma Hill, not outside the White Lion as Austin Mini said.
Terry sorry misread your post I thought you said "IS ALMA HILL NOT OUTSIDE THE WHITE LION"..
It's a GOLD coloured Maxi and it's a 1748, not a 1750.
I bought the smaller engine version of the Maxi in 1972, registration JUD 126L. It was a staff sale courtesy of my father in law who worked at Leyland Motors.
Ordered in February for June delivery which stretched to September because of the ongoing industrial disputes at the Cowley factory. A price increase during the delivery period to the cost to £1195. At the time the staff sale price for a Range Rover was £1995.
I bow to your local knowledge Simpkin, with looking at the height of the tower I now see that the road is higher up, it was the stone wall and iron railings that was confusing me with Church St.
It is deceptive, Austin Mini. The camera angle, and lens/zoom compression make the church tower look much closer than it actually is.
