Do you mean Victoria Street?

St Marks Church is visible further up the road.

I grew up just off (little) Billinge Road not far away. I used to grace Alexandra Park as a youngster, which is where I learned how to ride a bike.

Interestingly, the iron railings that formed the perimeter of the park where removed by the Council in the late 1980s.

However, they left the gates up at the Warrington Road entrance which was a little bizarre.

I don't know the reasoning behind the removal of the perimeter railings - maybe the iron work could not be maintained after years and years of exposure to the elements.

The park became open planned after this which is not necessarily a good thing.
