Wigan Album

Alice, along with many well-remembered stallholders, appears on a dvd made by Geoff Shryhane just after the Market Hall was demolished. I have a copy and it is brilliant to look back on the stalls and stallholders that most of us remember well.....Alice Hitchen on electrical, Harold Bradshaw's Menswear, Gibson and Young and many more. Alice used to live in Partington Street,just off Scot Lane,at the start of what was then old Marsh Green before the housing estate was built.

The lovely Alice ... I worked on her stall on Saturdays when I was young. Most of my time was spent looking busy. I vaguely remembered her husband working there too but he wasn't there one day and I was too nervous to ask why. I presumed he'd passed away.
