Sorry but after posting these pictures I never credited Barrie for the fantastic picture that he put on of him and his dad in the racetrack car at Peter Pan's playground. It brought back many memories of my own childhood going to Southport on a Sunday in my uncle Jack's car in the 1950s. I remember being sat on the beach near Pleasureland eating sand--wiches--(very gritty) and being able to get hot water for tea from a stall nearby. Also going with my own children in later days.
A wonderful picture. The cyclone was amazing. At one time, towards the end of its time, it was one of the UKs oldest roller-coasters. I have very fond memories of of riding the cyclone, Sefton Council should really have stepped in to preserved it. Such a tragedy it was destroyed.
Between the pleasure land and the Peter pan there was a small golf course, think it was called pitch and putt, spent many hours playing on there.
Southport funfair has been neglected and most of the old rides are gone. This was the cyclone rollercoaster and from the top you could see Blackpool Pleasure Beach Big One rollercoaster as well as the tower, and on a clear day the Welsh and Lake District mountains.
