The photo was taken (probably by myself) The son of Bob Hickey, on the left and a fellow Wigan Grammar School pupil, a couple of years younger than me, on the right, his surname was Hilton. The photo was taken outside the Wellfield Hotel, Beech Hill where I lived at the time in Wellfield Road, some time in the early 1960's, both were great lads.
The one on the left Keith,is Johnny hickey. Saw him walking to wigan last week.cheers eric
Good to know that, thank you Eric.
Hi Keith, I'm not 100% sure but I believe the tall lad is David Hilton who lived in Sycamore Ave. If it's the same David he became a policeman but unfortunately died in 1977.
Thank you for that information Graham, I believe, now that you've jogged my memory, that his first name was indeed David. What a great shame to die so young, I remember him as a really personable, friendly and likeable young man.
i used to know David & Tony Parr they lived on Rose avenue with an older brother and younger sister, i think there father was Bob and he worked on the railway
Looks more like David's brother, Ian. Both Ian and David played rugby at Wigan Old Boys.
Thank you denmal, you really have confused me now since I believe it could well have been Ian even though I thought it was David previously (I never knew he had a brother). Apologies to all concerned, there's simply no beating father time.
The Hilton's lived at 9 Sycamore Ave. There were 4 children, Ian 1943, David William 1945, Robert 1947 and Kathryn 1953.
Thanks once again Graham, you've confirmed for me that it was Ian since he was two years younger than myself, I knew him simply because we often found ourselves on the same bus travelling to school.
Sorry, only just seen this photo? I can confirm that the taller one IS Ian Hilton, my brother. Currently lives in Lytham, he will be pleased to see this and any other similar pics you may have. Am not sure who the correspondents are but Graham is correct with the family info.
Like yourself Robert, I have just seen your posting, but many thanks for letting me know about Ian. Please pass on my best wishes to him, I myself have lived in the West Midlands since 1973, some 5 miles from Wolverhampton. Three sons, who have provided us with two grandsons and a grand daughter, she lives in Montreal, Canada.
