Probably the best English song writer of all time. Wish l could have seen him .
I agree Poet, he wrote some brilliant material. My second best group after The Hollies.
I agree. He's like a latter-day Charles Dickens.
I liked all The Kinks, songs, Poet, and can I just add how refreshing it is to read "would have" instead of "would of"? It drives me potty!
Could it be Irene that you're "would have" should have been "could have"? :)
Yes, you're right, Dave.....it should have been "could have" but I'm sure you got the drift. "Would of", "Should of" and "Could of" are appearing more and more and it drives me potty! Also apostrophes put it where they shouldn't be, even by sign-writers. Wrong words being used is my number three pet hate....I have even seen in The Wigan Observer's Obituaries, "Mrs So-and-so of Ince, formally of Hindley", instead of "formerly"....that's what the editor's for.....it's his/her job! (Oh, I'm on a roll now, Dave, but I'd better shut up or I'll be thrown off Wigan World for going off the subject! But I know Frank Orrell vaguely and he won't tell me off!). Thanks for pointing it out, love! x.
Irene you're a "gem" and passed the second test! Your disdain for miss-placing apostrophes. :-)
I know I'm vague Irene but a wouldn't of towd thee off.
Thanks, Dave and Frank, for joining in the fun and giving me a laugh....Gentlemen both! xx.
What about Lennon/McCartney or Jagger/Richards? Ray was a good lyricist but not in the same league as aforementioned!!
I don't think Ray's ability to put social commentary into words can be beaten.
Johnny
That's because Ray's in a league of his own.
