I worked in Standish in the early 1970s and there was a pottery shop on High Street near The White Duck. I bought a couple of pieces from there for my "bottom drawer" as we used to say when we were engaged; one was a coffee-pot which sadly got broken, but I still have the other piece. a Langley Pottery vase.
Hi Barrie, Bob and Gill are still in Standish living very close to their old shop. I know Bob very well, we have a couple of pints, or more, together on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
Hi Roy, Glad to hear that Bob & Gill are still well and living locally.Give them my regards next time you see them.(x Moss Grove) I only found this card recently amongst the collection from my Dad.
Did they have a pottery in Appley Bridge before they moved to Standish
It was 1973 when I bought the vase from the pottery shop on High Street....would it have been Bob and Gill who ran the shop? I can't recall a Moss Grove.....it was just on High Street.
MICK, i have spoken to Bob tonight and yes they were in Appley Bridge.
IRENE, Moss Grove is opposite Grove Lane and the Horseshoe pub as it was in those days.
Hi Barrie - we are still here and gooin strong. So pleased (and proud) to see these comments here. Remember your Dad so well and with great affection.
Roy I remember they made some ash trays for the Railway pub in Appley Bridge and Robin the landlord gave me one as a souvenir when I was heading out to Singapore.
But unfortunately it got dropped and broke
Hello Bob, glad to hear from you after 34 years and still living in Standish. It has taken a long time to get round to going through my Father's stuff from the old house. Most of it is still in boxes in our roof space-Christmas cards are the exception and that is how I found this one that had been produced by you amongst my collection.
Hi Barrie! Lovely to hear of you - and the fact that Bob's pictures are still valued. Your dad was so lovely - as a companion/ guide - to explore the countryside footpaths around Standish when we were newcomers. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Hi Gill & Bob, been away at a wedding in the Midlands past few days so couldn't reply. Both of us are still fairly well & mostly mobile. We had a tour of the old bungalow in 2012 when I saw it was up for let. How it had changed since 1984 and the big back garden all gone. That is progress but a pity really.
