Keith: I watched a 1958 colour episode of Gideon Of the Yard ('Gideon's Day'), yesterday, and saw for the first time not one, but two of the public call boxes in action - you'll find them at 33:00 mins. in).
I think this blokes name was Tommy Nelligan
Thank you Philip - I had a look - great stuff. Jack Hawkins is known down here (West Midlands) for making a film on location at a long disused airport in Wolverhampton. The film was "The man in the Sky" - 1957. I've lived near Wolverhampton for the last 45 years.
I presume that's the police call box ont' t'other side o't wall......blimey, I don't know about making a phone call from there, I could quite easily live in that rascal......no, seriously! ...... I ' suspect ' the estate agent's description of the property may include words such as.......' panoramic views' , ' olde worlde ', ' bijou ' and ' desirable ' possibly....Also, you may find the phrase ' low maintenance ' , could most probably be added..
How about "Compact and cosy with double aspect windows" Ozy
Keith, just an aside. If you missed the film 'The Man in The Sky which Phillip mentions, you will find it on channel 81 along with the rest of their output roughly ever other day!
Thanks, Keith. I'll get round to having a look at The Man in the Sky, quite soon - the airfield used in the film was at Pendeford. By the way, I like your wedding photo, and its great to see that you had chosen the good old 'full' Windsor Knot.
Thank you jont65, for putting me right, it's Tommy Nelligan, once you've been told the answer it's so simple! Philip that's not my wedding photo, it's another Keith but I can also tell you that Pendeford became a large housing estate some 40 years ago. DerekB yes I've noticed it from time to time when flicking channels, cheers.
I can recommend channel 81 for the old films and other stuff relating to old milk bottles going missing. How to teach children road safety etc as well as old dramas such as 'Family At War'. I have only just been able to get the channel on my TV - I'm glued to it now it's great! It comes under the heading 'Talking Pictures'.
Brilliant Talking Pictures. The only channel worth watching.
'The man who never was' was on the other day. Great stuff.
Thank you for putting me right Keith. My apologies to you and, indeed, Keith Beckett - it's pretty clear that the current adverse weather conditions hadn't cleared my head.
I'm a sucker for the romantic ones ...'My Foolish Heart' and the music of the theme tune.... They don't make 'em like that anymore... sigh... Good old Scholes Pictures!
