What a beautiful old house, it just oozes Lancashire.
Where is this, and is it still standing?
It looks like they had a 'lean-to' built in!
It's still there! A lot of development has taken place, agriculturally orientated, with a large production facility. The old Giant's Hall colliery lodge is still there and available for fishing.
But where?
It is off Standish Wood Lane, JJ, not far from the bottom of Willow Road, Beech Hill. Surrounded by trees these days and a mini industrial estate. I went to Woodfield Junior School (now Mabs Cross School) and remember Mr Smith. He always rode to school on his trusty bicyle whatever the weather.
Thanks Liz I'll try to go down and see it one day.
Yes its still here and now restored... it got into a very bad state by the 1960s. Just head North from the Junction of Willow Rd and the South end of Standish Wood Lane. It was Jack who took the pics but it was his brother Brian who lived at Giants when these pics were taken . The black colour is because it was downwind og Giants Hall Colliery whose spoil tip (slag heap) was on fire. Like living in a pit yard. Fred Dibnah would have loved it. Now all cleaned up and restored. Billy Pit... Giants Hall Colliery now long gone.
