Life Centre not Civic Centre
My wife's grand mother used to live in the house on the left. It had a cellar with a bricked up passage that allegedly ran towards the Parish Church. Spooky.
wasn't that pub called 'Letts Wine Bar' when it first re-opened?
Scholes Malc, it was called Letts Wine Bar when it opened that was around 1980 - 81. They had a rule of not serving pints in the ground floor bar, that seemed strange to most people. Those who wanted apint had to use the basement. I think the concept of a wine bar was a bit avant garde for Wigan in those days.
That building will always be Ezra Sidebothams to me
Ezra Sidebottoms was to the left of what were 2 houses before it was a wine bar. See ny earlier comment.
Should read Sidebothams printers.
Should read Sidebothams printers.Gerry see item 2021 The Wiend in old gallery.
I bought what was empty Letts wine bar and opened it as Dollars in 1986, never made much money being off the beaten track. Had a really good bunch of regulars though. Sold it back to the brewery as soon as I heard the Ship ( 50 yards away on Millgste )was to be reopened as a Yates wine bar. For those of you who remember us a big thank you for your custom.
