Fantastic photograph! I spent all my pocket money here buying American comics. My dream was to work there so I could read them all for free.Superman, Batman, Suspense, Astounding Tales, Famous Monsters, Mad,this list goes on... Syd would get fed up with my browsing after an hour struggling to pick a comic book "Are you buying one or what lad?" Great times and the best comic stall in history. Thanks Ron and I bet Trevor read quite a few ones. Thanks Trevor brilliant photo
Like Tony, this brings memories of getting American comics there. (but only if I was in Dad's good book!)
What a haunting place that was. I loved that arcade. I can almost smell Gorner's café!
I used to collect my shoot football mag from here every Thursday on my way to the Deanery.
I used to buy Disc and Music Echo from here, and it was always available, bang on time, every Thursday. Irene: do you remember walking through on a Sunday afternoon when the whole place was deserted? It was a short cut on your way from Wigan Park to the bus stops in Market Place. Your feet would echo as you walked slowly up to catch your Abbey Lakes bus home...Of course, you would go towards the ABC to catch your bus.
In 1968 on our wedding day we had our tea here in this cafe ,and bought books from smiths books shop .48 years ago .
Gorner's Cafe is where my mam and dad went with their witnesses after their wedding at St Pats. Well there was a war on as they used to say! I wish the arcade was still there ....sigh!
