It would be great if all such pics were captioned - even if the church's patron saint's name is misspelt - with an 'e' instead of the second 'i'.
Taken beside the vestry of the church. The Institute was opposite the church - and has been converted, along with the adjacent church school, into retirement flats.
The Vice-President, the Revd. SF Jackson, was one of Rector Hutton's Curates of the time. It doesn't look like a close relationship....

The 'Tute' as we lads knew it in the early 50's and beyond. I remember it around the mid 40's, as, i think, a UCP restaurant, for want of a better word !! a glorified soup kitchen was a better description, i remember going there with my mother at infants school dinner time and can recall having soup. As David says it was opposite the church, behind it were several underground air raid shelters and behind those, nearer to what was the school(now Bramley Court)was the domestic science building for the senior girls at the school. That building together with the shelters and the Institute were demolished, to make way for the new apartments.
