I have recently “discovered” Billinge History Society Archives on the internet - I found it a fascinating site, with many tales of the characters, stories and events of times gone by.
I hope they don’t mind but I “lifted” the above photo from many which are on the site, which shows a Billinge family, a father with 12 of his sons, enough for a football or cricket team and one reserve. No year or name given.

There doesn't appear to be a vast difference in their ages God help his poor wife, Looks like it was a child every year.

I can recall a family at St. Cuthberts in 1965 that had 20 kids on Norley Hall IIRC. I won't mention the name of the family, except to say that their home was not too far from St Cuthberts.

Keith, you say 'with 12 of his sons', did he have more than 12?

It may have been a child every year Ron, unless it was two in the case of twins, Sorry I don't have any other info' so it's possible there may have been more in the family - my own great grandparents had 12 children but unlike the above it was a case of 6 of each.
