Rector Hutton died soon after returning from a ride in one of his cars on 5 January 1938. The contents of the house were sold over five days in May (9-13). The catalogue lists 1626 Lots on 99 pages. Three cars were listed—a 1929 Nash, a 1927 Buick, and an undated ‘old’ Buick.
The Rectory was demolished soon afterwards, and a new one was built on Wigan Road, just before the Boar’s Head.

When the Reverend Hutton's will went to probate, his effects were valued at over £29500 - the equivalent of over £1.5 million today.
