Any idea as to how it got that name Dennis?
From what I have read Ozzy, there used to be a mine close to the house and a bell at the house was rung for the miners when the mine was working. Hence the name.
Bang on Dennis. The capped pit shaft can be seen by the track leading to the house only a few yards from New Road.A few years back a gentleman who lived there in the 1950s said that the shaft was open then and they tipped their rubbish down it.
Nice picture.
We used to live in Curfew House, from 1959 to 1964. My father sold it to Dr Simmons from New Springs, for £3100 and we moved to Leyland.
I'll bet there are a good few New Springers who remember Dr Simmons.
Yes it was our home until 1969 when we moved to N Ireland,Then the address was Higher Lane, when did it chnge to New Rd?
I am the current owner of Curfew House, we bought it from Gerry and June Fairhurst who said they had lived here for 49 years. We would love to know any more history about the house. We don't even know the age of the property..?
