With all due respect Ron, this photo is already in the Standish Album, although i would say this is a clearer version.
All that hard work to be ripped up, and now they are trying their hardest to put tacks down again.
I must have missed it. I made a point of checking it wasn't already on the site as I was sure I had seen the photo before..
Looks like the building on the left with the crossed wall supports is the "Last Orders" pub and we are looking north with what will be Chadwicks and the clinic on the left further along. Brilliant

The Postie 2nd from right likes having his photo taken - he's in the pic of the Post Office somewhere up on the left which was put up here a few days ago (pic 26541)
EK Stretch (The Tramways of Wigan, p.77) gives February 1905 as the date work began on building the tramway from Standish to meet the existing line at Boar's Head. Trams began running on July 5th.
The postie looks like Crabtree out of 'Allo Allo
