That truck is really stuck. I had some great times when I was a coal man. Owd Anderton from Ince had the same lorrie, but his was a flat-bed. Anyone remembers Anderton from Battersby St.

I remember Fisher coal of ince green lane, and his mate.

it looks like the wagon is fitted with a tipping body, and the trailer is just parked in the yard,these lorries were only made with flat or tipping bodies.

Quite clearly you can see the bulkhead of the trailer. Never in a million years is it a tipper body...look at the other photo.

I remember a coalman coming to our house when I was small, Garry, delivering cwts of coal, but I can't recall his name. We got a gas-fire when I was about 12, I think. I used to love the smell of coal-smoke from all the chimneys, and you often saw someone's chimney on fire.

Yes; I remember Albert Anderton from Battersby Street Ince. He delivered coal in his Morris Minor Van

I knew him in the 1970s
Albert was a chemist by trade - so the locals told me He owned some land by the side of Lancaster Canal at Brock, houseboats where moored there
I have a photo of him somewhere....

I have a feeling our coalman was called Fairhurst but I can't be sure.

Posh having a gasfire in the 60s Irene. We live near lower ince labour club in the 50s. We had a roaring coalfire and always remember useing a large fork for toast buttys. We always turned the lights out because of the bright light from the fire..it was dead cosy and warm.

Coal men, now there,s a memory. Like Irene I remember them as a child. Hard to reconcile with the modern day with Central Heating , Underfloor heating and solar panels on the roof.

Garry, my Uncle and Aunty lived in Frederick Street in the fifties, Alice and George Parkinson. They had six children. I wonder if you knew them? They moved to Cheltenham Avenue when Frederick Street was demolished, and sadly both died young.

Irene,was the late Ken Parkinson a relative of yours.i have put some Photos of Spring View school on Ken is on 1962 one,and School Rugby team (back row on right) photo a bit blurred.new him very well.

Knew Frederick st well, Irene, but I was only young. Sorry don't know the family.

Yes, Jimmy, Ken was my cousin. To be honest, I didn't know him well; his younger sisters were more my age. I can remember visiting with my Mam on Sunday afternoons, as people did then, and Ken would have been in his teens and probably out. I will look at the photo you mention. Thankyou for telling me.

Jimmy, sorry to bother you. I see there are 23 photos on Spring View School, 20 on page one and 3 on page two. Could you tell me which ones Ken is on, please? eg "first row, 2nd photo" sort of thing. With not remembering him well I wouldn't be able to pick him out and I would love to see him. Thanks. I wonder if you knew any of my Griffiths cousins from Taylor's Lane, or Pat and Philip Cooksey, (Pat married my brother Colin). I'm not sure if they went to Spring View or Moss Lane.

Page2 1962 Middle row 2nd from right.I am first on left same row.Page2 School Rugby Team ( bit blurred ) Kenny 1st on right back row I am stood next to him. We left in 1963 Moss Lane joined 1964/5 did not know any of them.Our Keith was still there then ,lives in Townsville now will ask him when I Facetime him.Hope this helps you ,knew your Ken very well.
