The M6 through the Wigan area was built in the early 1960's but that picture looks like it was taken in the 1970's are you sure about the location and date of the photograph ?

Disagree,, the car in the photo has a yellow number plate with black letters, the same as the number plates of today and they were first introduced in 1968 and the M6 had been open for a few years by then.
I am thinking that the picture could have been taken at the Three Sisters Lake, perhaps in that long hot summer of 1876
The car is a Wartburg 353 Tourist, launched about 1070. The bike has no front number plate, this requirement was dropped in 1975. I agree with it being Three Sisters
A colour photo from Wigan, taken in 1876? and a car launched nearly a thousand years ago in 1070 - doesn't sound right somehow!
Frank,Wigan has always been leaders rest have always followed us.
I remember the M6 being built. In fact worked for Tarmac who constructed part of it. The route went thru a graveyard and the corpses had to be disinterred and reburied elsewhere!
That picture has just put me off my lunch.
this picture was taken over the three sisters jmmy conway
