Some of the 250 old folks who were entertained in the Parish hall. Possibly about 1960.

Jack, the entertainment couldn't have been to good. They don't look happy. Especially the woman second left front row with the head scarf L.O.L.

What year would this have been? Is it in The Parochial Hall down by the side of the church? I didn't attend St. William's school but lived next door to the presbytery and I went to many a jumble-sale in the schoolyard, (or the parochial hall if the weather was bad), with my Mam. My friend Christine and I also attended Miss Dunne's "socials" in the hall as children in the sixties, They were such lovely, homely evenings. I remember it was 1/- entrance and 3d for tea and biscuits.

I think they are all waiting for their bottle of Mackeson.

Bill, my grandfather and grandmother are also on the other photo I posted about the Walmesley Arms Hotel. I have another one of the Engineers Arms but for some reason it won't upload.

Josie is that our grandma? Which one? I think I found her. What do you think

Gradley folk who lived through through 2 wars. I agree with Bill re Rons comments.

Comment by: RON HUNT on 1st August 2013 at 11:48

Bill, ttd, get a life man, it was just an observation that they were at a "DO" and they looked miserable. What is sad about that???They were probably laughing their heads off two minutes later. It was the moment that the camera captured.

Comment by: Sam on 1st August 2013 at 14:44

As Ron says the camera probably caught them at the "wrong" time but nothing takes away their dignity which shines through.

Comment by: Albert. on 1st August 2013 at 18:21

They certainly supported their C.Y.M.S.I don't think you could have got any more in the hall.

Comment by: tony on 1st August 2013 at 21:04

no offence taken ron, i think its The Parochial Hall,
and the stage would have been at the front of the photo
and i think i see my dad tommy cunningham top right at
the back of the hall.
