That location is now Barnsley St, and the terrace forms the houses commencing at 217 Barnsley St.
Original and present day photos.
Brilliant research, thanks for the information
Many thanks, Ron.
The 1889 directory shows a Robert Buckley & Sons, flag and slate merchants, with premises just down the road in both Frog Lane and Hallgate.
Makes you wonder if, like a lot of Victorian businessmen, he didn't indulge in a spot of speculative building, and named the row after himself.
Brilliant job on the information mick, thank's a million! I knew it was around Gidlow Lane Way, but I wasn't sure exactly where.
Glad to help, Janice.
I think it looks better in the older photo!
Interestingly just on the other side of the railway line from these houses was a small row of terraced house called Buckley Houses and a larger detached house called Buckley House. Of course Buckley Street still exists.
I too think it looks a nicer street in the original photo...I like the before and after photos Thank you Mick..
Phil, am I right in remembering that Buckley House was immediately adjacent to the railway bridge on the current site of the two late 1950s build semis overlooking the Technical College campus?
Derek... the little row of terraces called Buckley houses ..as mentioned by Phil, were the home of the Bond family in the 1870s and 1880s. I wonder if they were as grand as Buckley Terrace?
