Slight correction to the above - the presentation was in fact on the occasion of Mr Lyon retiring after serving as Headmaster of Shevington schools for 43 years.
This information is on the testimonial card on the right hand side of the table, which is difficult to make out.

Mick do you know any other details about this man! I currently live in the house he built. Where did you get this photo and do you know where it was taken?

After a closer look it was taken on my doorstep (His doorstep back in the day)

I am looking into my family tree and came across Mr James Lyon.He was left some money in the will of Mr Joseph Bassnett who was a headmaster of Upholland village school.
Joseph was my dads great uncle. Don't know what the connection was with James and Joseph

So excited to find this! He is my great grandfather, James Lyon. My father, Frank Bentham was his only child from his first marriage to Alice Martland. He and his second wife had five further children. My father used to spend his summers with the family in Gathurst, Shevington. I now live in USA.

Correction to my message. Frank Bentham was James Lyon’s grandson. His mother Elizabeth Agnes Bentham (née Lyon) was James Lyon’s only child from his first marriage.

I have documents which was in the deeds to the property with quiet a lot of information if you want any details I can dig them out and take a look see if anything comes to light or is relevant.

My gt aunt Annie Fairhurst was James Lyon's second wife, I have several photos of James and Annie and their five children, and of 'Dunstaffnage' their home at 71 Gathurst Ln, Shevington, if anybody would like them.
