An aerial photo of garswood park prisoner of war camp just off Warrington rd Ashton. Warrington Rd runs from the middle of the top edge down to the bottom right corner.

I remember this camp and the prisoners walking out ( After the War) A number married local women and stayed in this country I think Bert Trautman who played in goal for Manchester City was one

Brilliant! The driveway to Byrchall School exactly matches the approach to the camp. The spare land at top left of the photo is now the Oakwood Ave estate, and both the schools' buildings and playing fields are right where the main body of the camp was!! Of the circular area of trees, only the bottom left segment remains. The M6 cuts across the bottom left diagonal of the photo just short of the camp boundary.

Does anyone remember climbing up the water tower?

Bloody dangerous looking back at what we got up to as kids!

I remember climbing the water tower to get into the gang you had to climb it then walk round the tank also rember looking for toads in the drains
