Thanks for posting this, it has been an amazing experience cross-referencing this with the images of Low Hall- my house is built on what was the moat around the hall!

When I saw this, Andrew, I wondered if you knew what your house was built on!

I didn't put a copy of the map I have because it is a copyright protected - supposedly.

There is no Crown Copyright on 19th and early 20th century OS maps... the Govt has released them to the public domain. It is true many companies will re-print them and sell them on and this is perfectly legal... but the images and information in the maps themselves are in fact free to everyone. The following is taken from the Crown Copyright website...

Copying out of copyright mapping

Crown copyright exists in Ordnance Survey mapping for 50 years from the end of the year in which it was published. You can copy mapping that is older than this without a licence from us. If you are unsure if the mapping is over 50 years old, please contact us to check.

You are not obliged to include an acknowldegment on any copies of out of copyright mapping. However, if you wish to use one, we suggest either of the following:

© Crown Copyright {insert year of publication}

...or:

Reproduced from the {insert year of publication} Ordnance Survey map.
