Not to sure about the date, would say the 50s.this was a regular occurance back then as any senior Platt Bridgers would remember. In the distance you can see Albion St. Pros Yard,Victoria Rd.Liverpool Rd.on the right hand side at the bottom of Platt St. are a block of four terraced houses where Joe Newton and his wife Sally used to live,Joe was a bit of a loose canon in those days, only Sally could control him,it looks Pens on the site of the Jaguar garage, there was allmost more Pens than people in those days.any senior Platt Bridgers will enjoy this photo I know I did I have a Photo of the Brickcroft which I will be posting shortly.

Nice one John! Of course, this is Platt Bridge so it can never be simple. I just know someone is going to ask if you are sure it is Albion Street in the distance because it looks as if the photographer is stood on the corner of Albion Street... where the Queens Arms is.

But they are BOTH Albion Street, the street that was approximately where the back gate of the Jaguar dealers is was Albion Street as well.

Just to rectify a small error on the photo caption it should have read Warrington rd.not Liverpool Rd.running across the bottom of Platt st.

Spot on Winnie, with the Labour club location, the two houses on the photo were in fact opposite the Queens, Wes Self lived in one of them,he was sadly killed in a car crash on Bamfurlong bridge early sixties.

Thank you so much for this. I remember it well. my Dad was cycling along this road during the war - no lights - when his bike hit a brick & he came off. he didn't break anything, but was badly bruised & shaken up.

I know I'm sounding think but . . just to get my bearings. The houses closest to us are behind where the takeaways are now and the Labour club will be built across the road. - am I right?

Sorry should be 'sounding thick'. Ha ha

There was always a problem with flooding in Platt St prior to the fifties. I remember seeing some photos in Dicky Balls Temperance Bar, there was even a rowing boat on one snap.

Pam... yes, you are right. The photographer is standing near the Queens looking toward the site of the future Labour Club.

I thought the street after the Queen's Arms was Victoria Street. Albion Street is the one on the left off Miller's Lane (originally Fog's Lane) with the backs of the houses facing the beginning of Victoria Rd.
